“And so with the sunshine & the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
It is hard to believe in anything other than freedom in the summer. The extended light of the Sun is designed to soften us, release us, teach us to believe in impossible things, to believe we can move in light, to believe in all of us, being together.
I know we are all up against scripts from our childhood, scripts that no longer serve us: blindness towards colonialism, racism & economic inequity, exclusion, all hidden in plain site. There are some of us (me!!) that can get a bit hung up on examining these addictive & harmful belief systems that are baked into being alive in most Western governmental/cultural systems.
It is a slippery slope to both break everything down & still feel free. To realize that a new understanding of the world is not based on bringing everything to zero. That we have, all along, felt moments of joy & communion with each other. That we have reached out & touched others in ways that were surprising at first. Having emotions & connections with people that, on the surface, couldn’t be more other than you.
We live in the crossfires of many bids for power. But the real power lies in the natural world & it continues to spiral us all back to a common denominator of truth: how will we eat, find water to drink, how will we find shelter as the climate keeps pointing us back to community.
Summer is the best time to focus on community. Talk to your neighbors when you are in the garden. Help another mother at the beach. Bring food from your garden to your local library or community center. Take your joy, when you feel it, and share it. Openly.
Keep it simple this summer. I am not saying to slumber through the current reality but more to infuse & inject the light & what it does to your heart into your belief system. Reach out & touch someone.
It is not always easy for me to be in real life community. I can be such a recluse & so deep in the virtual space. This summer, I have made it a prayer that to be present here in the flesh. To keep the energy moving. Stay open.
Here are just a couple of my summer plans:
~ Volunteering at my farmer’s market & learning about food programs on the Cape
~ Teaching a meditation every Tuesday morning at 8:30 am focusing on The Aliveness & Community. Meditation is situated on the lawn of the highest point in town, The Pilgrim Monument & Provincetown Museum, overlooking the harbor.

And, yes, we will continue to build community here as well . . .
Tomorrow I will be beginning a new 40 Day Sadhana right on the Summer Solstice ~ the Sadhana of Expanded Capacity in honor of Jupiter’s recent ingress into Cancer. Expanded Capacity is not about pushing yourself or white knuckling, it is about going where you are afraid, about creating more, past the point that you have always felt was ‘enough’, it is about letting people in, it is about having more time to be of service, it is about holding yourself more tenderly, it is about being courageous. Come sit with us & find out where you have the capacity to become more limitless 🤍 Practice is by donation. My Venmo is @kathleen-izzo & avatar is a small child with a bear. All gifts received with grace & love & 20% goes to family support for Gaza.
These daily practices will be held on Instagram Live at 7 am ET & the recording will live here on Substack for paying subscribers. It’s worth it to join that inner crew, not just for this Sadhana but for access to the vault of many other meditation practices.
So gorgeous to see this transmission after opening up Substack for the first time in a while. A wave of relief and sensitivity washed over me reading about Sadhana beginning tomorrow. Grateful for your unique currents of generosity! 🤍
