“To be beautiful is to be a seashell, so open that all the oceans & fluids of the earth, of the body, are heard through you. Openness so open that it turns itself inside out & makes a snail shaped labyrinth that leads to the ocean”
~ Kathy Acker
My Devotion is My Biggest Beauty Secret.
When people ask me how I care for my hair, my skin, my body, when people ask where I get my glow, I say Devotion. Not that I pray for Beauty. When I pray, when I commit to a practice, when I set an altar, when I dress for ceremony, I feel beautiful.
My recent Devotional Practice for the Venus Retrograde was such a lambent ‘success.’ And by success I mean I felt beautiful & auspicious & was able to transmit this luminosity. I received so much love, mostly in the form of the participants’ (you perhaps) desire & response, expressing to me how ‘different’ they felt, how magnetic, how much agency & personal power they could access. How much lighter. How the world around them was morphing & bending with their grace & presence.
This is Beauty. This is True Beauty. And it does take practice, but when you think of all the time & money that you spend on various anti-aging, sloughing, shifting & GLOW prescriptives, it is truly time well spent. It is the most sexy thing ever to surrender in an intentional to something that GIVES back LOVE: nature, life force, god, synchronicity, alchemy, flow, nourishment, peace. All these things are at the same time the source, practice & end result of your intentions. It’s totally a win-win.
There are many things that keep us from committing to such surrender. We think we don’t have the time. We think we need to be taught. We think other people do it better. We think it is too simple an answer. We think we have tried it before & it didn’t work. We think we deserve the kind of love that shows up in another person’s eyes, arms, protection, presence.
All these things may be true. AND also, it is always good to give to yourself first. Devotion & Prayer are actually for You. Above all else. For after all, everything you are searching for is you. You are the Love that you seek, the Mystery you seek, the Purpose you seek.
Although I have just told you repeatedly that you have everything you need & that you most probably already know how to pray, it is also beautiful, helpful & inspiring to pray with others. To hear how others set up their altars, their practices, to support other people in their devotional practices. To come together.
It all works. And, there is time. There is plenty of time.
One of the most profound things I have learned from my prayer practice is that it is ALL MY TIME, every single thing I do & also, the more I commit to a regular practice, the more I can bend time & space. More on that coming very very soon.
Other things I am thinking about today:
My new house!!!! AND color palette which includes YELLOW (not just a pink girl anymore). I am in luvvvvvvvvvv 💞
End of season melancholy, particularly the end of my Dune Tour Job & an inordinate obsession on the Loss of Bohemia ~ everywhere, but for me today, especially in my little town {“it’s an eccentric’s sanctuary” or at least it has been for hundreds & hundreds of years}. Provincetown is a major Brainiac Amor of mine, so much more on this to come. An old video here features my heartthrob boss Rob Costa & is so innocent of what is to come, what is happening now, what to value . . .
